Topic: How does God’s Word apply to my life?

Scripture is Important and Useful

Devotions Archive

Spend time with the devotions this week.  Read the Scriptures and then think how you can apply them to your life.

 MONDAY October 27

Are you saved?

Acts 3:19 “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Ask yourself these questions:

1.) According to these verses you are saved if you’ve done what?

2.)  If you are not saved what is it that you must do?

3.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses?

TUESDAY October 28

Do you have anger issues?

Proverbs 29:11 “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.”

Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Ask yourself:

1.) According to the first verse in Proverbs what shouldn’t we do?

2.) What should we do instead?

3.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses

WEDNESDAY October 29

What it means to be a Christian

Matthew 21:21 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, If you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”

1 Peter 4:16 “However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.” (Go back to Monday’s verses too)

Ask yourself:

1.) According to the verse in Matthew what does it mean to be a Christian?

2.) According to the verse in 1 Peter, if we are Christians what do we know will happen because of

     our having faith?

3.) What should our response be?

4.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses?

THURSDAY October 30

Does doubt (unbelief) ever come into your life?

Mark 9:23, 24 “If you can’?” said Jesus.  “Everything is possible for him who believes.”  Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”(In this verse Jesus does heal the demon-possessed boy)

James 4:7-10 “Submit yourselves, then to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and he will come near to you.  Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Grieve, mourn and wail.  Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.”

Ask yourself:

1.) What do we need to do with our unbelief according to Matthew 9:23, 24?

2.) If doubt comes into our lives what should we do according to the verses in James 4:7-10?

3.) God is always near us the question is: Are you drawing closer to Him?  How?

4.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses?

FRIDAY October 31

How are you in your relationships?

1 Peter 2:11 “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.”

Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

Ask yourself:

1.) What is it that God wants us to abstain (withhold or keep) from?

2.) How should we view our relationships according to the verse in Hebrews 13?

3.) What will happen if we don’t follow God’s word here in Hebrews 13:4?

4.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses?

SATURDAY November 1

Do you know God’s Word?

Proverbs 3:1 “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart.”

Philippians 4:9 “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.”

1 John 4:15 “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.”

Ask yourself:

1.) According to the verses in Proverbs 1 and Philippians 4 what are we to do with God’s Word?

2.) What are we to do once we have received God’s Word according to Philippians 4:9? 3.) What is our assurance (guarantee) if we acknowledge Jesus in our lives according to the verse in 1 John 4?

4.) How can you live out (keep in your heart and mind) these verses?
