DEVOTIONS FOR November 10-15, 2008

Topic: Prayer--Communication with our Father in Heaven

"How we ought to pray"

Devotions Archive

Spend time with the devotions this week.  Read the Scriptures and then think how you can apply them to your life.

 MONDAY November 10

Look up and read Matthew 6:9

“Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

A lot of times we go about our lives not giving recognition to God.  He created it all and He desires that we remember Him because He always remembers us.  Maybe the beginning of this prayer could be made more personal said like this; “Hey Dad, This is ( put in  your name) I know You’re up there ‘cause You’ve made everything in this world that keeps me going and You have adopted me as Your son.  You are Awesome!  Would you please take some time now and pray that first line of the Lord’s Prayer.  We need to recognize God our creator, protector and provider of all things and how Holy His Name is.

TUESDAY November 11

Look up and read Matthew 6:10

Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Are we being used by God?  Are we allowing Him to work through us?  Do we see His kingdom around us?  We can experience Him now and His kingdom here on earth today, as it is already in heaven!  Maybe this part could be made more personal if said like this; “I see Your Kingdom around me, Lord whenever someone lets You shine through them.  Please shine through me so that others will want to know and love You better.  They all love You in heaven.  I wish they all loved You on earth.  Pray this part of the Lord’s Prayer today.  We can and should shine for God so that others will learn and know of His great love.

WEDNESDAY November 12

Look up and read Matthew 6:11

Give us today our daily bread.

Are our daily needs being met?  We’re not starving are we?  We have a place to rest and get warmth?  Have we invited God to be a part of our daily lives?  God knows what’s best.  He meets the needs of His people.  He’s always ready to be a part of our lives; the question is, are we?  Maybe this part could be made more personal if said like this; “Please take care of my needs today.  God is always providing.  We aren’t always paying attention to how God is providing for us.  Meditate over this part of the Lord’s Prayer and think of the many ways God has met your daily needs and then thank Him today.

THURSDAY November 13

Look up and read Matthew 6:12

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Do we tend to hold grudges and not forgive others because we’ve been hurt?  How much do you think God hurts when we sin or cause hurt in someone else’s life?  God forgives out of unconditional love for us.  He’s simply saying, even though you’ve caused me pain, I still love you and will forgive you.  When we forgive someone that’s what we’re saying, “Hey, I know what you did really hurt me, but I love you and am willing to turn it over to God and forgive you.  Maybe this part could be made more personal if said like this; and I am really sorry for the times I have not invited You to be a part of my life.  Forgive me the same way I am willing to forgive others who have turned against me.  Spend some time praying over this part of the Lord’s Prayer and examine your heart before God to know that you’ve asked for forgiveness from Him and have forgiven others.  God always forgives us.  God is always providing.  Thank Him today.

FRIDAY November 14

Look up and read Matthew 6:13

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Do we really enjoy getting into trouble and doing things we know we shouldn’t?  The only way that we will be able to turn away from the world’s way, and keep from doing the things we know we shouldn’t, is with God in our lives.  We need to ask Him daily to help keep us from temptations and from falling to Satan’s traps.  Maybe this part could be made more personal if said like this; and put it on my heart to avoid those situations that tempt me away from You. I know You have given us a better way to live, but our world is full of distractions and sometimes I lose sight of You.  Show me the way out, when I am faced with those distractions.  Pray this part of the Lord’s Prayer today asking Him to help keep you from Satan’s distractions that he puts in your path.

SATURDAY November 15

For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.”

Do we recognize how truly awesome God is in our lives?  How significant is He in our lives?  He sees and knows us and He’s the only way out in a world that is quickly passing away.  Maybe this part could be made more personal if said like this; Lord, I never want to walk without You by my side.  I am putting my life in Your hands, again today.  Until next time, Dad!  I Love Ya!  Bye!  Spend some time praying this part of the prayer today, thanking Him that He is by your side and that He will never leave you.  Ask Him to take you into His hands and help you through each day.  After that pray through the whole Lord’s Prayer and commit it to heart so that you can always remember Him ‘cause He always remembers you!
