Barnhardt Family Scholarship:
Made possible by the Caleb H. Barnhardt, Jr. family.
·
Dollar amount to be
determined.
·
Recipient(s) or members of
their immediate family must have been members of MUMC for at least
one year before their enrollment in an accredited college or university.
·
Recipient(s) must be
classified as an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared interest
in studying accounting, religion, or teaching.
·
Recipient(s) must have
grades acceptable to their enrollment or continuation in their college
or university.
·
Applicant must submit a
brief written statement providing some of the reasons you have chosen
to pursue a degree in religion, teaching, or accounting.
Priority
will be given to persons of high moral character and demonstrated financial
need.
II.
Marcia Clark Lakeson Scholarship:
Made possible by the Lakeson family &
friends in memory of Marcia C. Lakeson
· Scholarship of up to $600 each, for a total of $1200.00. (Subject to availability of
funds.)
· Recipient must be
entering full-time Christian service of any type.
· Recipient must be a member of
MUMC with demonstrated financial need
Applicants
may be in undergraduate studies, in graduate school, or in seminary.
III.
Sylvia Strong Scholarship:
Established in memory of Sylvia Strong and funded by the Family Enrichment
Sunday School class, her friends and family.

$500
scholarship. Applicant will be selected with
priority given to the following intended majors in the following order:
1.
English teaching
2.
Teaching
3.
Liberal Arts
4.
Any other disciplines
Applicant
must be a member of MUMC. Priority will be given to those with
financial need.
IV. UMW College/Continuing Education
Scholarship: Made possible by
funding from the Matthews United Methodist Church United Methodist Women.

$500 scholarship to one member
of our congregation who is pursuing higher education. The awarding of this
scholarship is based on the criteria listed below and the point value
indicated for each category.
1. Membership in MUMC
(required)
2. Acceptance by an
institution of higher learning including: (required)
a)
Graduate school
b)
4-year institution of higher learning
c)
Community college
d)
Vocational/Technical school
3. Exhibiting Christian
leadership by: (35 points)
a) Involvement in MUMC & church
related functions
b) Involvement in
other Christian clubs
c) Involvement in
outreach activities
4.
Completion of written essay:
(50 points)
a)
Topic: My College/Continuing Education Will Benefit God’s World
Because…
b) Length of
essay: at least 500 words
VI.
Michael R. Maloney Memorial Scholarship:
Made possible by funding from the family and friends of Michael R. Maloney.

Minimum amount of scholarship
will be $500.00.
·
Applicant must be a member
of MUMC.
·
Applicant must be accepted
by or enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.
·
Applicants must maintain a
2.5 grade paint average.
VI.
Justin Tanger Memorial Scholarship:
Made possible by funding from the family and friends of Justin Tanger.
·
Minimum amount of scholarship
will be $1,000.00.
·
Applicant must be a member
of MUMC.
·
Applicant must be accepted
by or enrolled in an undergraduate program at an
accredited college or university.
·
Applicant must be full-time
student in the field of Special Education, a field related to Special
Education or in the field of Mental Health.
·
Applicants must maintain a
2.5 grade paint average.
**ALL Scholarships are granted for one year,
but recipients are eligible to re-apply the following year.
An interview may be scheduled as part of the
application process.
