Winter Affinity Groups

Affinity Groups offer youth an opportunity to explore different areas of discipleship. Groups will meet for 7 weeks, beginning January 27, 2016 and ending March 16, 2015. Groups will not meet on February 10. Youth and families are encouraged to attend the Ash Wednesday service on that night. We encourage youth to try a new group that they haven’t done before. Be sure and check the times of your group, they vary! Each group will spend time at each gathering doing a devotion at either the beginning or end of each meeting.

Group choices are:

RAINBOW MINISTRIES—If you have a heart for working with children/youth with special needs then please sign up for this ministry team! This group serves two purposes: first, we offer a safe, loving environment to children who come. This gives their families time to have a “night out” or to enjoy some other ministry areas at church. Second, we offer a companionship time for youth with special needs (cards, games, service projects, etc. ) These youth look forward to spending this time with you! This group will meet Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm (1st night meets 7:15-8:30 pm*) (9th – 12th grades)

HABITAT OUTREACH—This Wednesday Night group is focused on serving others. We will be mentoring and teaching children from the Matthews Habitat for Humanity community to build strong relationships, as well as help them learn more about God and how to be more successful in school. Come and use the blessings and gifts that God has given you. It’s going to be great! This group will meet Wednesdays 6:45 – 8:00pm (7th – 12th grade)

SOCCER—Soccer is a fun team sport for boys and girls, and a great way to get exercise. It improves hand-eye coordination and athleticism, and above all, the emphasis on Spirit of the Game encourages honesty, fair play, and resolving conflicts in a respectful, productive way. This group will meet Tuesdays from 7:15-8:30pm (7th – 12th grades)

YOUTH CONFIRMATION— It’s not too late to join this great group! This group is for 7th-12th graders who have not yet gone through the Confirmation Journey to become a full member of the church. It is a great opportunity to discover more about your faith, and the United Methodist Church. It is approximately an 18 week commitment, culminating in May when you will be confirmed as a full member of the United Methodist Church. Through this journey you will know what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ! This group will meet Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 (7th-12th grade)
